International SEO

When a brand serves more than one language or country, search engines need explicit signals about which version belongs to which audience — or the wrong page ranks in the wrong market.

The building blocks

What goes into International SEO

hreflang Tag Generator

Add language/region versions to produce reciprocal link tags.

How I do it

The process

  1. 1

    Market model

    Languages × countries matrix.

  2. 2

    Structure

    URL pattern and CMS setup.

  3. 3

    Annotate

hreflang in HTML head or XML sitemap.

  4. 4

    Localise

Native keyword research and content adaptation.

  5. 5

    Validate

Check return tags, canonicals and indexing per market.

Principles I follow
  • Decide the targeting model before building; retrofitting is expensive.
  • Prefer subfolders (/en/, /bn/) on one domain unless strong local entities require ccTLDs.
  • Generate hreflang from a single source of truth and validate reciprocity.
  • Research keywords natively in each language, including transliterations.
  • Avoid automatic IP redirects; offer a language switcher instead.

Measurement

The numbers I watch

Tools I use

  • SCGoogle Search Console
  • SRSemrush
  • G4Google Analytics (GA4)

What you get

  • Market targeting plan
  • hreflang implementation spec
  • Localisation keyword sets
Bangla + English site

Bangla pages rank for English queries and vice versa.

Add reciprocal hreflang (bn-BD / en-BD / x-default) and self-referencing canonicals per version.

Illustrative example
Does hreflang consolidate ranking signals?

No — it swaps the right version into results. Each version still needs to earn its own rankings.

Is machine translation acceptable?

Only with human review; poor translations hurt both conversion and quality signals.
