Keyword Research
The building blocks
What goes into Keyword Research
Keyword Clustering Demo
Paste keywords (one per line) — they are grouped by shared terms and tagged by likely intent.
How I do it
The process
- 1
Seed
Products, services, problems, audience language.
- 2
Expand
Tools + autocomplete + People Also Ask.
- 3
Qualify
Volume, difficulty, CPC (commercial value), intent.
- 4
Cluster
Group by shared SERPs; name each cluster.
- 5
Map
Assign clusters to existing or new URLs.
Principles I follow
- Seed from customer language: sales conversations, reviews, support tickets.
- Expand with Keyword Planner, Semrush, Ubersuggest and AnswerThePublic.
- Classify intent by looking at the SERP, not by guessing from wording.
- Cluster by SERP overlap and assign one URL per cluster.
- Prioritise with a simple score: value × intent fit ÷ difficulty.
Measurement
The numbers I watch
Keyword coverage
Share of priority clusters with a ranking page.
Top-10 keywords
Count of priority keywords ranking on page one.
Share of search
Your visibility vs competitors across the keyword set.
Tools I use
- KPGoogle Keyword Planner
- SRSemrush
- UBUbersuggest
- APAnswerThePublic
- GTGoogle Trends
What you get
- Keyword universe
- Intent-labelled cluster map
- Priority roadmap
- Content briefs
New product category launch
No historical search data for the brand in a category.
Use competitor and category-level demand, seasonality from Trends, and build cluster pages ahead of launch.
Illustrative exampleShould I target high-volume keywords first?
Usually not. Long-tail, high-intent clusters convert better and build topical authority that later supports head terms.
How accurate are keyword volumes?
Directional. Use them to compare opportunities, then validate with Search Console impressions once pages exist.
